Gulval Res V Trevenson Res
Gulval Res 3 Trevenson 4 League Match played at home on 07/03/2009 Kick Off: 14:30, Attendance: 15 Refereed by: Brian Harris Match Report Trevenson took a quick 2 goal lead in this closely fought mid-table clash at Gulval on Saturday. Some smart build up play by Trevenson and good defending led to a corner from which Luke Abbot-Smith scored with a glancing header. Shortly after, Trevenson broke quickly down the left and a cross allowed Stu Rule to head the ball home for number 2. The early goals perhaps settled the Trevenson back line a bit too much as Gulval continued to play well and began to find more space in front of goal. It took a penalty kick from which Stu Cooper smartly scored to get Gulval onto the scoreboard after Phil Harvey had his ankles tapped in the area. Further attacking play from Gulval down the right allowed Tom Mockford to cross to Stu Cooper who glanced the ball to Antony Polyblank who netted from close range to equalise. As half time approached, both goal keepers were mostly on-lookers before Frank Mitchell then gave Trevenson the lead again, collecting the ball just inside Gulval's half and hoisting the ball goal wards, catching Gulval’s keeper Rob Gall off his line as the ball went in just under the crossbar. Back came Gulval again equalising right at the death of the 1st half with a good move down the left with Polyblank racing through and finishing with aplomb into the top corner. The second half was a lot more assured and organised from Trevenson, although defensively, both sides were cancelling each other out. Once again the goalkeepers became mostly observers as the close battle in midfield looked like a share of the points would be the final outcome. Both sides played some good football with Gulval probably having more chances but none clear cut enough for them to score. Trevenson's winner came 10 minutes from time from a set-piece. A free-kick aimed towards the far post eluded the Gulval defence and Abbot-Smith slotted home from 3 yards. A good 3 points for Trevenson with Gulval unlucky not to have at least had a share of the points. |

Cornish New Boys V Gulval
Cornish New Boys 2 Gulval Res 2 League Match played at Roskear playing field, Camborne on 28/02/2009 Kick Off: 14:30, Attendance: 11 Refereed by: Dave Baxter
Match Report A close physical game took place at the home of CNB with the home side looking to consolidate their place at the top of the league. Gulval’s keeper Rob Gall was called into early action, twice saving one on ones and keeping Gulval in the game. Then midway through the first half, after good work down the right by Stuart Cooper, Phil Harvey and Antony Polyblank, Jamie Harrison scored for Gulval. Minutes later, Tom Mockford speared through the CNB defence to cross for Harrison who smashed in on the volley for two nil. However, CNB pressurised more in the second half, and eventually drew level through Ryan Hooper and Leon Gilbert. Gulval had a late goal disallowed for offside and a strong penalty shout turned down, and were unlucky not to grab all 3 points. |

Match Report Gulval had to fight back from a goal down on two occasions to eventually run out worthy winners in this dramatic cup tie. An even start, Richard James hit the post for Gulval in the first half only for Storm to grab the opener minutes later off the post at the other end. Tom Mockford then ghosted his way to the goal line to cross for Antony Polyblank to equalise in the second half. Into extra time, Storm again took the lead, but Luke Howes 25 yard screamer evened things up once again. The final 15 minutes belonged to Gulval, with Dan French playing in Polyblank who crossed for Richard James to finish. Neil Marston then slotted an excellent pass to James who grabbed his second and Gulval's 4th. Man of the match Phil Harvey deservedly banged in number 5 to send Gulval through to round two. |

St Buryan Res V Gulval Res
St Buryan Res 2 Gulval Res 0 League Match played at Buryan, St Buryan on 07/02/2009 Kick Off: 14:30, Attendance: 16 Refereed by: Frank Burnell
Match Report This mid-table clash took place in windy conditions, with both teams evenly matched. Playing with the breeze in the first half, Gulval pressurised well but found the home keeper in good form. With no goals at half time, chances were few and far between. It was left to veteran striker Nigel Hall to break the deadlock, after coming on as a substitute midway through the second half, the experienced front-man pounced on a defensive error to notch a vital goal. Gulval fought back well, dominating possession, but Hall ended revival hopes with a 25 yard scorcher that Rob Gall did well to get his hands to as it flew into the top corner. |

Marazion did scramble a second goal near the end, but Jordan James got his first for the club to wrap a good day up for Gulval. |

Gulval Res V Wendron 5ths
Gulval Res 1 Wendron 5th's 2 League Match played at home on 24/01/2009 Kick Off: 14:30, Attendance: 12 Refereed by: Len Stevens
Match Report In sticky conditions underfoot, Gulval were looking to bounce back after last week’s loss against high flyers Storm Res. Playing against the bottom team in the table this week, confidence was high, but never take your opponents lightly. This game was entertaining as the action moved from one end to the other in a well fought game.
Wendron took the lead midway through the first half. A through ball found Gulval's backline high up the pitch, and although there was a suspicion of off-side, it was only a suspicion as the Wendron forward made an excellently timed run and finished well past Rob Gall.
Gulval were creating a lot of chances at the other end. Jamie Harrison, Corey Howes, Stuart Cooper all going close. It seemed only a matter of time before Gulval scored. With seconds remaining in the first half, Gulval pressure finally resulted in a real opportunity to bring the scores level from the penalty spot. However, Corey Howes struck the penalty a foot wide.
The same effort from both teams continued into the second half. Rhondda Mitchell started to make substitutions and changes in the Gulval formation, and finally the pressure resulted in Charlie Pearce calmly firing the ball into the net from inside the area. It looked as if only one team could now go on to win it, but the Wendron keeper made some excellent saves, notably one from a Phil Harvey close range header. But Wendron took the points with a spectacular effort with minutes remaining. Rob Gall cleared the ball from the right hand edge of his area only to find a Wendron player near the half way line. His first time effort of around 50 yards went straight into the empty net. |
