Gulval Lose in Jollys Shield Final

E-mail Print PDF

Gulval lost out to Carbis Bay Utd on Sunday in the Jolly's Shield Final. Gulval took the lead just after half time with a penalty converted by Phil Harvey but couldn't extend it with the Carbis Bay keeper pulling off several good saves. As the clock ticked down Carbis Bay started to put more pressure on the Gulval defence and with less than ten minutes remaining won a penalty of their own which was cooly converted.  Almost immediately from the kick off Gulval lost posession and swift counter attack ended with Carbis Bay scoring a second.

Well done to everyone who took part in an entertaining and even match.

Gulval Res 1 - 0 Perranporth 3rds

Scorers: Richard James

Right from the kick-off, Gulval forced a throw wide on the right, and Terry "Delap" No Balls launched the ball shaped missile right into the mixer where the Perran defenders and goalie watched it land on Trickies head. One nil. Things were pretty even after that, both teams at times playing football on a pitch that tried to prevent the short passing game. Phil Harvey had a good shot from the edge of the area well saved by the Perran keeper, and at the other end, Ben Reeve saved at full stretch as the Perran attack broke down the middle and shot well from just inside the box. After half time, Gulval were looking right into the sun, making it awkward for the defenders. Perran pressed well, and kept the Gulval defense on their toes. To be honest, there were not really that many goal attempts, as each team battled well and effectively cancelled eachother out! With 10 minutes left, Perran broke out of midfield, and a lob over the advancing keeper saw the ball bounce inches wide. At the other end, Gulval threatened but chances were thin on the ground and eventually the referee blew up. Phew, decent 3 points for the home team to keep promotion hopes right on track!!

Gulval Res V Wendron 5ths

Gulval Res 3 - 2 Wendron 5ths

Scorers: Charlie Pearce 2, Phil Harvey

To be fair wendron started the brighter side, having several good openings in the first 10 mins. Our lack of match practice was very evident as this was our 1st game since dec 17th 09. Wendron drew 1st blood, the ball was played over the top of the defence for the forward to chase, parky got back well to tackle but what seemed like for ever the ball some how found its way to the feet of their player for him to hit home. Freddy hit the cross bar with a 25 yard shot with the keeper flapping. We started to get to the speed of the game, Chas finding himself in the box on his own only to fire wide. Fred and Gringo harvey worked hard to break down the wendron midfield. Then we had a perfectly good goal disallowed for an apparent off side, even the ref gave it, but was talked out of it by their lino glare.gif . Anyway, that seemed to kick us in to gear, Gringo harvey picked up the ball on the edge of the box to calmly place the ball in to the bottom corner off the post. 1-1
By now the pitch looked and played more like a ploughed field that had been flooded, but credit to both teams they kept trying to play football. Chas Pearce soon gave us the advantage that we worked hard to get with a nice finish.
H/T 2-1
Wendron came at us again, but the work rate all around the Gulval team was only getting better. Chas Pearce was fed the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box, glided in to the area to thump the ball in to the top corner with power and accuracy.
How wendron are in the predicament they are in i do not know, there spirit and fight was absolutely fantastic, and any team that think they are guaranteed a win against these guys need to think again. They kept plugging away, breaking the off side trap to round the keeper and tap in.3-2
Some solid defending by Parky and Wattsy kept the scoring to that. Pleased to get another victory and finally another game under our belts!!
I really do wish wendron all the best for the rest of the season, good bunch of lads with REAL spirit thumbsup.gif
